Health & Fitness

For anyone who knows me personally, I have always been a health and fitness fanatic.  Besides the aesthetic benefits of having a beautiful body and being able to stay physically fit, it is also crucial in staying healthy throughout life (and happy too might I add)! 🙂  I love my workouts, it truly uplifts my spirits and it feels great knowing I am taking care of myself.  So what are some ways I like to stay healthy?

Every morning, I typically start my day with a green smoothie.  I will share a basic recipe I created although it can vary depending on the ingredients I have on hand.  Sometimes it’s good to switch it up too!

Meli’s Green Smoothie(These are approximate measurements, I really just whip it up in the Vitamix.  Once you add everything together, start on the lowest setting and gradually get up to the full speed.  It takes me about 1 full minute to blend everything).

* This makes about 2 servings.  I’ll drink half in the morning and later in the afternoon have the other half which I keep stored in the refrigerator.

  •  2 cups water (or often times I use a brewed tea as the water base)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 a banana (or 1 small banana)
  • 1/2 a lemon
  • 1 spoon chia seeds
  • matcha powder
  • cinnamon
  • cayenne powder
  • 2 cups spinach

(In terms of the order, I place the water first followed by the fruit [I cut the fruit up into smaller pieces] and mix of spices.  Then I will add the yogurt and lastly the spinach on the top).

Daily Diet – In terms of my daily diet, I try to eat as clean as possible.  This consists of mostly organic fruits, vegetables, and meats.  I also love seafood and enjoy sushi when I want to treat myself.

Body CombatFitness – I try to incorporate a workout session every day (I rarely skip unless my schedule prevents me from putting in the time).  This includes lifting weights, running, and various fitness classes that my gym offers.  Some classes I like to take are Body Combat (a mixed martial arts high intensity cardio), HIIT (high intensity interval training), Boot Camp, and Zumba.  I like to change my workouts as not only is variety the spice of life, the best results are obtained from finding ways to challenge your body constantly.

Fitness Inspiration – Being I enjoy working out to begin with and it is a part of my lifestyle, I thought it would be nice to share some fitness inspiration I live by, enjoy!
